Landscaping offers many design options. Garden walls are important elements of garden design, which serve a very practical purpose. Whether dry, stone, concrete or gabion, all types have a very special charm. A retaining wall provides privacy, can be used as a noise barrier, and often provides space for flower beds or lawns.

Retaining wall blocks – advantages and disadvantages of natural stone blocks

Natural stone or boulder retaining wall blocks are the most expensive material and require the most work, but the sleek, unique look is hard to achieve with any other material. Blocks can be granite, sandstone or limestone. Granite is the hardest stone, which is used in landscaping. Its amazing colors vary between gray, black, purple, yellow, blue and white, and reveal their beauty especially when wet. Granite stones are available in certain standard sizes. Natural stone retaining wall blocks come in regular or irregular shapes and are absolutely versatile as they suit any type of design.

An alternative to expensive natural stone blocks are cement mix blocks, so they are a synthetic material, which means that their cost is significantly lower. As a manufactured product, these stone blocks can have different shapes, designs and textures that replicate natural stone. Stone blocks are suitable for retaining walls where mortar is not required and the dry pile method is used. Retaining walls built with stone blocks are divided into three main types: rubble, cut stone and boulder.
